What if you get a “Verification required” message while downloading or installing free apps? Here are instructions on how to prevent the “Verification Required” message from appearing on your iPhone or iPad.
A verified app is a third-party app that has been reviewed by Google for compliance with security and privacy requirements. Third-party apps that have not been verified by Google may have restrictions. Note that many popular apps may not be listed as verified.
Message about the need for verification when installing the application
- Install or update Apple apps on iPhone, iPad and MacBook.
- It effectively blocks users from downloading free iPhone apps and won’t disappear until the user clicks “Continue” and begins verifying payment information.
- Generally, the Verification Required error message appears when the credit card associated with your Apple ID has expired, the payment method associated with your Apple ID has failed, or there is an unpaid balance on your account.
- The only way to resolve this error message is to update your payment information as necessary. It is to remove the credit card or payment information associated with your Apple ID.
Note: You cannot change or remove your payment information if your balance is unpaid or a payment is pending.
1. Change shipping and payment information
- Open Settings and tap your Apple ID.
- On the Apple ID screen, select Payment & Shipping.
- On the next screen, tap your payment method list.
- On the next screen, tap Edit (top right) and update your payment information as needed.
Another option is to scroll down the screen and select the “Delete” option.
2.Update your media and purchasing information
You may need to update your payment information on the Media and Purchases screen.
- Go to Apple ID through Settings. From here, select the Media and Purchases tab.
- Then select View Account. Then select “Manage Payments” on the screen that appears.
- Select the list of your payment methods (credit card, PayPal, etc.) > make the necessary changes to your payment information on the next screen. After doing this, tap the Done tab.
Select the buttons to select Edit, tap the red minus icon, and remove the button at the top.
Tap the “Delete” tab to confirm.
Your iPhone will no longer bother you with the “Verification required” message when downloading free apps or updating apps.
You can change your payment information by accessing iTunes from your Mac or Windows computer.
3. Change Apple Payment Information ID
You should be able to easily resolve the issue by logging into your ID on a computer and correcting your payment information.
- Go to the Apple app on your MacBook or Windows PC and sign in with your Apple ID account.
Sometimes security questions may be asked, in which case you must answer these questions.
- Click the “Payment Methods” tab and select your payment method. Click the Add payment method link.
- Choose your payment method and make any necessary changes.
If your payment method is not listed, click the down arrow and select Nothing as your payment method.
This should fix the issue of getting a “Verification Required” message when downloading free apps to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
You can check the verification status of your third-party apps in the Google Admin console on the App Access Controls page:
- Sign in to the Google Admin console
- Be sure to use your administrator account credentials, not your personal Gmail account.
- Go to Security > API Controls.
- Click Manage access from third-party apps.
You can find the verification status of the apps in the app table on this page. Each app is listed as Verified by Google or Not Verified by Google.
